What is a Junior Member of the American Legion?
My son is applying for a scholarship through the American Legion. One of the requirements is to be or has been a Junior member of the American Legion.
My dad’s been in the AL for 30+ years. As a girl, I was not able to join the Sons of the AL but I was in the auxilliary for years and attended Girl’s State. As my membersip is not current, I can only make some educted guesses.
Generally any sort of membership in the American Legion, its auxilliary or children’s divisions requires that a family member be a veteran of an American war or police action. I believe the Junior AL is the recent update to the Sons of the American Legion which required a parent or ancestor to be a veteran.
If you or one of your ancestors, have proof of serving in the military during certain “war” years, you shouldn’t have any trouble. Most Legion’s have some pretty decent folk in charge who would be happy to help you – call your local post.
